Exactly. You can't have Resistant to Toxic Damage, but you can have Resistant to Poison -- in which case, all that matters is knowing whether it's a poison or not that hurt you. Effects which translate directly to injury are allowed to lack a damage type, because they're not "damage," they're injury, and thus don't care about wounding modifiers, etc., like damage does.
