I'd assumed it was the fact the barrel was stiffer leading to less flex. Looking at the handful of other .223 assault rifles in HT they tend to match the -A1 while those listed with 5.56mm have the higher range. I'd forgotten among the changes to the -A2 was to fire SS109.
