The reasonable amount of time to prevent the player from winning the combat was during the combat. Once he's won, he gets the rewards, and if the rewards included two or more levels, that got him to Level 10, then he won the game.
To be extra clear: The "reasonable amount of time" rule only applies to a player winning combat. As I said above, once a player has won a combat, you can't deny him his rewards. Also, once a player is Level 10, he's won the game. There's no waiting another reasonable amount of time to play some card to take levels away.
