I am thinking about running a Western style GURPS campaign. (very early stages of planning - in fact, no real planning done yet)
There is the Weird West book which is not the take on the western that I am looking for, but I am interested in the Old West 3e book: http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/books/OldWest/ I'll probably buy the PDF regardless, but I can't find any discussion of it on the forum, nor is it among the list of books marked as easy to use with 4e. Obviously as a setting source book it would be great, but has anyone used it? Does it convert well to 4th edition? Also, any recommendations on running an Old West campaign? The page I linked suggests GURPS: High Tech as well, would it be helpful? |

This subject has come up before - I found this thread which discusses using Old West with 4e - there may be others.

High tech has most of Old West weapons converted into 4Ed. Beyond that, you should use the equipment tables from the Old west book, but with a multiplication factor, If I'm not mistaken, the starting wealth is US$200, while in 4Ed it is $5000, so, multiply all prices by 25, or, if you want to use dollars, divide 4Ed prices by 25.

I would get Old West and High Tech for certain. There's also a supplement coming out soon called Adventure Guns, which will deal with firearms from the old west era up through WWI. If you're interested in detailed gun fights, Tactical Shooting is great, just as Gun Fu is great for a cinematic over-the-top feel.
Although it's not a SJ Games supplement, I'd recommend the Knuckleduster Cowtown Creator, as it has lots of good suggestions for creating believable western towns. Have fun! It's one of my favorite genres, but it's sometimes hard to get players interested in it, which is just too bad...

Thanks SCAR for the link. Obviously I am an advanced search noob because I didn't find that. Has pretty much all the info I need.
Also thanks guys for the other info. I've purchased Old West, and I'll get High Tech, and possibly even Aces and Eights for the extra subject material and mini games. |

Every time I look at Old West I feel the need to come up with a good western campaign.

They hadn't published it when I did those conversions, but they're internally consistent with each other. If you use them, just make sure you don't use the later published numbers to prevent conflicts. I really should revisit my stats.
