Hello,
I was wondering in which book I could find some information about space crews. Like, what equipment to use, more details about different spacesuits, day to day life, what to do in case of a leak, etc. I was thinking of a T9 to T10 hard sci-fi scenario. I did not find much in neither Space nor Spaceships. UT has some equipment but it is not very detailed. THS would fit quite nicely, is there any sourcebbok that deals in detail with the life in space? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance! |

GURPS Traveller, but it's rather specific to its setting.

I thought Traveller was Space Opera, not Hard sci-fi

It depends on how you play it. Some GMs run it as hard SF with maybe FTL.
In any case, some of the Traveller stuff would be useful to the OP if he ignores the superscience parts.

Depends on whom you ask. Classic Traveller has one line where it emphasizes the "science" in "science fiction role-playing game." T20 claims to be "hard science fiction" four times in a 64-page booklet (T20 Lite).
GURPS Space: Terradyne for 3/e has been out of print for a long time, but has some pretty good suggestions for a hardish science space campaign. GURPS Mars is still available from SJ Games, and includes realistic near-future options. I recommend the Near Orbit and Deep Space supplements for Cyberpunk 2020, the latter more so than the former. The books are mostly setting- and system-agnostic, but cover a lot of good material on near future space travel. |

Deep Space for CP2020 is probably about as good as you're going to find. I would actually try to find some of the NASA training material as most games get things like exposure to vacuum all wrong.

And on which defininition of hard science fiction you use. Some emphasize the importance of scientific accuracy, others the technical detail.

This being GURPS, I thought vacuum wrongness isn't an issue.

I read a CP 2020 space sourcebook (don't remember the name) a loooong time ago and it was exactly what I was looking for. To be honest, the point of my post was to see if there is something similar for GURPS, with maybe a bit more variation in TL (I would say CP 2020 is mostly T9 space tech). I'll have a look at the THS and maybe some Traveller supplements. |
