Default TL 9 gun messed up.

Has anyone else noticed that the TL 9 guns should be much stronger? The 25mm anti material has a lower base die damage then a .50 cal sniper from TL 8. Its damage is 10d++ (max 60 before piercing modifier) and the .50 cal is 6dx2 pi+ (max 72 before piercing modifier) While the 25mm has a larger piercing modifier that only comes into play after penetration, it should have a much higher base damage in the first place

You are not comparing like with like. The 25mm Payload Rifle is a low-moderate velocity weapon that relies on the warhead for effect - you would use it to fire HE, HEAT, or chemical shells. What you should be comparing with the .50 sniper rifle is the 15mm anti-material rifle, which does 15d pi+ (and can do considerably more if you use an ETC or liquid propellant version - UT139 for these versions).

Just Becouse its a payload rifle dose not mean it would have a lower velocity then it normally should have. The barrett xm109 (a real 25mm rifle in the later stages of development) wont.

Though you are correct, I compared the wrong two things.

And will the payload of that rifle include a lot of functioning electronics?

I so look forward to GURPS Armory. Pulver made assumptions when he designed his weapons, perfectly gameable assumptions, but once I have Armory, I can more clearly see what those assumptions are and adjust them to suit my needs.

Actually, it does. The XM109 has a muzzle velocity of 425 m/s, a little under half the 853 m/s of am M82

Actually, the payload rifle will (the text even states that it's a medium-velocity weapon).

As for the XM109, tt's intended muzzle velocity is about 1400 ft/s, which is about half the muzzle velocity of a .50 round from a Barrett M82. The XM109 is intended for exactly the role that UT intends the payload rifle for, and it has ammunition of similar type and ballistics.

The payload rifle is essentially a rifle-shaped long-range precision grenade launcher. That's really what you have to think of it as.

Wow, that would be really great! Are there indications that they are currently or in the near future working on it?
