Can you voluntarily lose a level for Curse! Ill-Fated (Munchkin Legends)

Curse! Ill-Fated says the Curse is lifted if you lose a level. It looks to me like this can't be done voluntarily (i.e., you would have to suffer some other effect that causes you to lose a level, you can't just say you want to lose one), but I just wanted to make sure if that matches the intent of the card or not.
