Is there any official ruling on weapon damage against high DR? A sword should chip against an extremely hard surface, but I can't seem to find any rules for it, only rules for unarmed damage against high DR.
I know the rules for weapon damage are only if a weapon is attacked, but I'd think in the long run most damage to a weapon would be from hitting against surfaces too hard to cut or pierce through. It doesn't need to apply to crushing damage; I figure those are made for hitting the hardest surface as possible. But sharp edges and fine points should chip and break their edge every once in a while, but I can't find any rules. And if there aren't any rules, what would be a good way to rule on these situations? |

You may be interested in Low Tech Companion 2. On page 22 it has some optional rules for weapons breaking against high DR, with a chance dependent on the ratio between the wielder's ST and the weapon's MinST. On the following page is a list of weapon DR and HP, in case you want to track a blade's condition more closely. You might combine that with the "damage on unarmed attack" rules from MA, applying that damage to the weapon if it exceeds its DR.

This would be the logical thing to do. Something hitting a weapon should not differ from a weapon hitting something (assuming same angle and impact point). However, GURPS seems to handle things with some differences from that.
