The reason I chose Rcl 3 was that the Gewehr 43 ist heavier than the K98k.
Also the Gewehr 43 actually is the Karabiner 43, only the name was changed in 1944.

Ah, I see what you're saying about the WWII book stats, which makes sense to me. So I'd probably use the Kar98k ranges after all (1,000/4,300). I can see it going either way on the recoil (the Gew98 has Rcl 4 as well, but weighs half a pound less than the Gew43 when both are empty... unless you're using a WWI-era clip-charged Gew98, which weighs slightly
more empty than the Gew43). I'd say use whatever makes you comfortable... I like 4, but I consciously tend to err on the side of "making life more difficult."
