At what time, can I ask for help in combat?

Hi

I open a door, and a monster appears!

The monster is level 4, but I have combat strenght 6, so I dont ask for help.

But then another player boost the monster so it has combat strenght 8!

Can I then ask for help?

Can I ask another player to help, after cards affecting combat has been played, or can I only ask for help, before any cards has been played?

The rule is that you may ask for help in combat at any time that you are losing to the monster(s) you are facing, and do not already have a helper.
