The shirt rules say if you are playing a version without Steed rules, it's a Big Item that doesn't take a Big slot. Not sure how that translates. I'm all for just allowing you to stop treating it as a Steed just so you can equip a better Steed. I'm just as on board with whatever the actual intent and ruling may be. I was just pointing out what I thought jgabdoo meant.

Yes, of course there are certain instances when you can discard a steed. My point was that in order to correctly discard a steed, then you must sell it (or, with certain steeds, discard it to run away) because the steed rules say that a steed is treated as an item and follows normal item rules. Items cannot be discarded (as the rules state "just because") and they must be sold or lost. That was the point I was trying to make here.
Since there is no gold piece value attached to the shirt, then unless it has "no value", you cannot simply discard it since it is a steed. |

Interesting. So it is explicitly an Item, and a Big Item at that. I'd say then that the "No Value" is assumed, since every Item must have a GP Value, and it doesn't give any other value.

In my case, we do have the expansion. Should we still play it as if it had "no value"?

I'd say to not treat it as an Item when you have Steed rules. I'd also make no assumption of the value when you don't have the Steed rules (but there's virtually no way for it to get taken off you anyway).
On taking off the shirt, I believe we did have an official ruling that somebody could take off their shirt at any time to stop using a shirt's rule, and if they do, they can't get the shirt's rule back by donning it again. I'll have to look that up later, so don't quote me on it just yet, though. I still think that latching onto the word 'may' is the easiest way to handle the shirt, though. |

Well, given that the very definition of an Item involves having a GP value, if it is an Item it must have one, I'd think, and the only possible value it CAN logically have, if none is specified, is "No Value". But yeah, that's pretty much irrelevant if you are able (as I tend to agree is probably the case) to stop using it as a Steed at will.

So unless the Czar chimes in with a different ruling, we'll proceed this way... Thanks again!! |
