2) I don't think that they are going to call whatever they publish Vehicles 3e, but rather Vehicle Design 1e. 3)If you mean that it will be for GURPS 5e, I think that's pretty silly. There probably isn't ever going to be a GURPS 5e and I really doubt they aren't going to publish a book that they've already spent so much time on. |

It took 16 years for 4E to supercede 3E, it has been 9 years since. I would estimate we are at or near the midpoint of 5E's lifespan. I know that many feel it is "perfect" but I think every decade or so improvements can be made... Yes, but that is time only wasted if VDS is incompatible with 5E... and the longer it takes, the more this idea pays off. Vehicles is a pretty fundamental building block for GURPS, and without it 4E is becoming ever more provincial and inconsistent - introducing it now would produce mismatches with every 4E product, but delaying it to the start of 5E would allow it to inform that entire product line. And every year that VDS sits in development hell the more that situation increases. Heck, at this point it might be a waste to publish VDS in 4E! |

I'm pretty sure that if 5e was needed to keep Gurps alive, then it would be far more sensible to halt the Gurps line entirely and completely focus on the money makers of SJG. As it is, 4e was a questionable decision in a purely business mentality. One I'm incredibly glad for, but I understand just how much of a sacrifice to fans it was.

Twenty-five years ago people were still buying deadtree editions of tabletop RPGs from brick and mortar stores.

To be fair, I now buy all my stuff from E-23, so SJG doesn't suffer the game store's cut off the top.

At any rate that's my point. Twenty-five years ago the market was thriving. Now it's in decline. In eight or nine years it's not likely to be in better shape. Certainly not enough to support a new edition. Besides if Pulver is taking this long for the VDS why do you assume he'd be able to do GURPS 5e any faster? |

Not sure how that is relevant. I still do, and if anything e-books seem to decrease risks and costs for the publishers. That time marches on is part of the reason I think a new edition is going to happen - maybe even in the next decade.

Because there are more people who could/would work on it, and because speed is not the issue. It is not that it is taking him "this long", it is that it is a low priority. |

The hobby is tiny compared to what it was in the mid-eighties. There's no money in tabletop gaming anymore.
