In the first DAWN OF WAR series, an SM unit tricked out with flamers, meltas, and/or missiles can easily remove 3-4 times their number of orks if they get surprise or trap them, usually without more than 1-2 casualties. Also, an Ork boss comments on how effective 'splosives are against his kind in one of the cinematics.

I suppose it might technically work, but it sure isn't effective.
