Default Ranger question

When you tame a monster and make it a steed is it a steed for the rest of the game or just until you're done with it? So like trading steeds or discarding and someone pulling it from the discards?

As soon as you discard it, it becomes a monster again, definitely. While it's a Steed, it's not an Item, so you can't trade it. Ranger even says you can't trade the Steed (and lists some other things you can't do too).

Somebody would probably be able to use Lurina Steed Chow or a similar card that can steal someone else's Steed to take it away from you, and I'd say it still remains a Steed then.

Thank you sir, we have the oldest version of ranger and I don't think it said anything about discarding rules, I could be wrong though

The current official text of every Thingie (Race, Class, Accent, Mojo, etc) is available for free download here.

Ranger has gone unchanged since its release. It says what it has always said. This can be confirmed by checking the errata (http://www.worldofmunchkin.com/errata/munchkin), and the big 2010 update change log (http://www.worldofmunchkin.com/faq/changelog.html), neither of which provide text changes for the Ranger class.

A Tamed monster is not an Item? I thought that all Steeds were Big Items for the purposes of Bad Stuff and Curses. We have been playing that a Tamed Monster is still a Big Item but it cannot be Traded.

The “big” designation on Steeds is to control what Traps and Curses affect them, and to keep Thieves
from pocketing and walking off with them.

Tamed Steeds are not Items because they do not have a Gold Piece value.

Good to know. So a Tamed Steed can only be lost to:

a) A Ranger Taming a second Steed (thus having to discard the original)

b) A Curse! or Bad Stuff that specifically targets Steeds (such as the Used Steed Salesman)

c) Used as a Discard to power a special ability

Am I correct or am I missing something? If I'm correct the Ranger's ability just got a lot stronger.

Change b) to anything that specifically targets Steeds (e.g., Lurina Steed Chow is neither a Curse nor Bad Stuff) and I think you'd be correct, tremorlaine.
