If any Item leaves your play area, it is considered lost to you, even if you intentionally traded it away.

The rules define what an Item is. An Item must have a gold piece value (which includes the value "No value"). Also, there are Items which are not Treasure cards (Steeds from Munchkin 4, Munchkin 5, and Munchkin 8 are a great example of this), so your Treasure = Item equation falls apart there.

On the topic of lost items,
if a player is afflicted with the chicken on their head curse. Can they trade/give their headgear to someone to remove the chicken. So a cahoot could take it and give it back to remove the curse? |

Curse! Chicken On Your Head says that only Curses and Bad Stuff that gets rid of your Headgear will get rid of the chicken.
Thus, if you give away or sell your Headgear, the Chicken will just perch on your head instead. |

Though Clipper's response seems excessively exclusive, that wasn't the question. Since the question was about the alternative ways that one could lose the Curse, it wasn't necessary to specifically mention the obvious notion that you could use a Wishing Ring to remove Curse!: Chicken On Your Head.
