I know that you can go to B&N's page for any book and request that the publisher make it into an ebook via a link. I do not know if Amazon has the same feature, but then I don't bother with them for ebooks. . .

Amazon has the same feature, you can request the publisher to release the book in eBook format for the Kindle.
