Switching races / classes

Hey guys,

So let's say I'm an elf warrior, but I also have a halfling card which allows me to sell one item for double the money.

If I keep the Halfling card in my hand, can I switch out to Halfling, sell my item, then switch back before kicking down the door to being a combat?
