Default [DF] The Fairy-Blooded

In my gameworld, the fairies are immortal beings that live on other planes of existance. They are extremely powerful and even a single fairy would be a challenge for a party of DF delvers. But these fairy races have visited upon Mythic Earth and sired many mortal children called the fairy-blooded. They are mortal beings and often live in large groups of their own kind and live a life similar to their fairy parent. The elf-blooded are the offspring of true elves and humans that live near forests or other natural areas. They now live in forest communities away from human settlements but will visit them from time to time. The dwarf-blooded are the result of interbreeding in ages past of true dwarves and humans and now live deep in mountains. They follow their fairy parents desires for craftsmanship and metal-smithing.

There are also malign fairies that have interbred with humanity in ages past. The goblin-blooded, troll-blooded and ogre-blooded are thee result of witches summoning these malign beings and bearing their children which they used as servants. These fairy-blooded beings had children of their own and now stock the dungeons of Mythic Earth. They are mortal and far less powerful than their fairy parents but they can not be banished to their home plane like true fairies can.

He mostly posts these to share his ideas, usually does not reply so I do not think he wants anything more then to share his point of view.

That's kind of how I pictured the Faeries; as mysterious and powerful creatures. Not necessarily evil-some are good, some are evil, just like humans. And not impossible to befriend. But somehow more wild then humans and definitely dangerous. But I pictured cross matings as the production of lineages of heroes and poets. This is however an interesting take.

He replies when he asks a question in his opening post... but, yes, it's generally considered polite to take part in any discussion that one starts (either face-to-face or online).

Anyway...

It looks to me like none of the "Half-Spirits" racial templates in DF3 would work for these offspring. What would one put into such a template?

It is an irritating habit of his, but with how many issues I have I never get to call anyone else on theirs without looking like a giant hypocrite.

Fairy blooded wouldn't really be much of a template, in my opinion. It's more of a choose one or more advantages from the general fairy template, and one or more disadvantages. It would be a kind of genetic crap shoot from weak blood.

Much like the "system" in Celtic Myth, then? I can work with that.

I was just trying to organize the cosmology of my game world. I like the ideas of fairies being powerful and that they can live in dungeons without having to eat or have biological explanation as to why they can live in a dungeon for so long. I also like the take on faires in GURPS Faerie and Ars Magica. In DF the monsters have to be powerful to provide a challenge and the monter races in DF3 are too weak.

On the other hand many players want to play fairie races and so I decided that fairy-blooded was a good explanation for lower powered fairy races used as PCs. Elf-blooded PCs are graceful, slender, pointy eared nature lovers but they need to eat and are affected by things that affect mortal beings thus they will fit into a human based party and not be too unfair. At the same time elf-blooded are not true fairies so they don't know how to make all of the magic items that their elven ancesters can make. It also keeps the true fairies most mysterious because an elf-blooded may not know much more about true elves than humans.
