In gurps undead there is even the option to make non-remains in the shapes of humanoids to animate through such spells. Anatomical plaster skeletons for really fragile quickly made ones, to iron sculpture versions perfect for surprising that arrogant undead hunter.

Hell started out as Celestial's Warehouse 21. If only the night watchmen weren't so darn curious.

Really? There you go! Someone else gets the Original and Awesome point.
Aah! I gave away my AD&D books in 1982. Switched to The Fantasy Trip. I didn't know that a demi-lich was a zombie or skeleton that had decayed to dust and the dust remained undead.

It not; is a Lich that has decayed. But a Lich has the same form as skeleton but is animated by a much more powerful spell, plus you know it's intelligent.

The same reason real people are cruel... gits and shiggles. Sadism is disturbingly common in all life, not just cats. In polite society, we simply call it schadenfreude. But it's really the same thing just with an extra self-delusion tacked on.

The demons are evil, and are motivated by universal malice. They would inflict condign cruelty on the good if they could, but the gods protect the good. The evil get "punished" because the gods won't or can't protect them; they are tormented because they are defenceless.
