Ok as I mentioned to ericthered I want to join up for a game.
This is my first draft.

Edmund Pierce is a solid looking man in his early 40-s. From a young age his fantasy has been captured by history books. To his fathers chagrin he pursued a somewhat ridiculous aspect of it during his studies in a respectable British University, he placated his father, an old school military gentleman, by actively participating in school sports and all kinds of physical activities. He was even a junior champion in their fencing team.
After he has became a respectable author and popular lector in his field even his father has accepted his interest.
