You don't reconcile them. They are rather incompatible. You privilege one over the other (whichever you enjoy more) and run with it. As you appear to be running using Dungeon Fantasy, then I'd suggest you privilege DF's take on it over the one provided by myths for the sake of coherency with the rest of DF's rather vague implied setting.
