There are official rulings that state that you can transfer it to yourself. It's also referenced in the FAQ, albeit indirectly:

The 'any other player' referenced in the card text refers to any other player than the one who owns the combat.

To piggy back off his question and your answer, the person that used the transferal potion to direct the monster to himself and he defeats it, does he also gain levels?
