Sock Puppet and Eldritch Cleaver

Hi all,

Happy to be on the forums and this is my first post. I've been playing munchkin for around 5 years now. Last night I played a great 5 hr match and of course some rule questions arose, so now I'm here :)

I opened the door to the Sock Puppet and could kill it handily, but before I kill it, could I also play Eldritch Cleaver from my hand?

Of course my argument was that this card neither fought or aided the monster. What say you :)
