"Wilderness" adventures and difficult travel are part of the genre. However, the character types in question strike me as at best modest tweaks to existing templates. For example, a pirate is simply a swashbuckler who picked Seamanship and Climbing from the existing list of background skills, while an equestrian is probably a knight with good horse skills and a really good horse (say, from DF5). Barbarians are already outdoor specialists.

To put it another way, a number of these character types are already there, or at worst near misses.
