I've got all 4 Christmas Boosters (well the 4th is on the way by post) and the Jolly Jumbo dice. My friends and I are looking forward to a nice Christmas themed game next month.
Now we made each other promise to not look at the cards ahead of time and leave them as a complete surprise when we play with them. So what I'd like to ask is must they be played with Fantasy? Or are they safe for any Munchkin flavour? Are there any cards specific to a set, referencing classes, races or abilities that might not be in other flavours? Please answer without spoiling anything. I just want to be sure that if we decide to play Zombies and Santas (or whichever combination), that we don't have a bunch of cards in our hands we can't use. |

They have fantasy backs, but I think they would work well with any set. Especially since you have them all. I can't recall anything too specific to the fantasy set. As a matter of fact I just mixed them with Conan and it was pretty fun. (Yes, I realize Conan has fantasy backs as well.)

There is one monster, Harold Angel, that gets a bonus against Clerics, but I can't see any other reference to Fantasy-only stuff in the original three boosters nor the Jolly Jumbos.

Zombies has a promotional Santa monster, so if you have the Zombie Santa card, then it would work with the Santa monster rule. I can't think of any other non-fantasy sets that have a Santa in them.

I stand corrected. I haven't had a chance to play the Axe Cop set yet.

Axe Cop has quite a few Santa monsters.

I was going through all my Christmas booster cards again, mostly they seem pretty generic, only referring to themselves. The one mentioned earlier referencing clerics won't break anything in a non-fantasy set.
But I was wondering about another card, I don't have the name with me now, but its text says something like "class and race ability have no affect". I can see that easily translating to other "thingies" as well like loyalties and accents. But what about Powers? Birthrights? Naughty/Nice? |
