One-Shot Items

Quick Question...

I know any card with a gold value can be carried, but can carried one-shot items be used during combat since they are not equipped? The rules say...

"You may also use one-shot cards, such as potions, from your hand during combat. A card is a one-shot if it says "Usable Once Only" or if it gives a Level increase.

So, if I had "Nasty-Tasting Sports Drink" (200 gold, +2 to any side during any combat. Usable once only) carried on the table, can I then NOT use it during combat because it is a) not equipped or b) a one-shot that is not in my hand

Yes, one shots are still usable. If you consider that even though it is not "in use", the one shots can be added into a combat whether you are carrying it, or if you have it in your hand. The quote above is just to clarify that unlike most other cards, one shots can be used in combat from the hand.

The rules say, "One-shot items, such as potions, may be played directly from your hand during combat. You can also use one-shot items that you already had in play." That's on page 2, 3rd paragraph on the right column, part of the Combat section.

Actually, which version of the rules are you reading from? I can not find that phrasing anywhere in the current rules.
