I am trying to figure out a suitable Equite (or insert a better name here) template four a mounted fighter for DF
Despite the name, it should not actually require a horse as a mount (though the Stallion makes an excellent choice). Suitable critters from DF Allies seem to include the Stallion, Boar, Bear, and Tiger The Giant Eagle could make a fine mount for a Pixie Equite The easiest way is just 'tell someone to use a Knight and pick Ally as one of his advantage choices', but it seems their could be a cool approach to a character intended for focus on mounted combat, rather than just a Knight on a Horse |

I'd probably call it a Cavalier, or maybe Gallant. Though strictly speaking, "Knight" is a perfectly appropriate title. That template also has plenty of discretionary points available. You could concoct a Mounted lens for it, but I don't think a completely new template is necessary.

If you're dead set on a new template, you could probably do well to mine the mounted styles in Martial Arts for some basic ideas:
Armatura Equestris (p. MA150) Bajutsu (p. MA151) Furusiyya (p. M159) Knightly Mounted Combat (p. MA175) From that, I'd gather a list of fitting traits and skills. You might also consider adding Animal Empathy [5] or potentially Speak with Animals (Specialized, One Family, -60%) [10]. Good with (Mount Type) [1], Higher Purpose (+1 to rolls involving riding or being mounted) [5], etc. Power-Ups could include traits constructed from various riding-related techniques.
