Responding to a post from another thread which seems more appropriate to discuss here...
Perhaps, but the player with the choice might not be another player, but the target himself, and he should have the same choice whether he is the target or not. Why is he allowed to be nice to himself with KYitA but not with other Curses? |

I think the first problem could be resolved with simple errata to "lowest level player other than yourself"
In regards to the second problem, in other games, there's a clear distinction between "choose one:" and "X unless Y" - "choose one:" means that, well, there's a choice, where as "X unless Y" means that their is an choice so long as the requirements for "Y" can be met. Without Kick Yourself in front of me, I don't know which it is, but I'd think that's a good premise to go on.

Both Curse! Kick Yourself In The Ass and Curse! Caaaaaaaanes! provide a choice to somebody as the command on the card. Curse! Caaaaaaaanes! actually has an unless clause too. Specifically it's "Lose X, but if you can't, then you lose Y or Z, your choice". Curse! Kick Yourself In The Ass is "You lose X, Y or Z. The lowest level munchkin chooses which."
Another card that causes issue is Curse! Butterfingers which is essentially "Lose X or Y", not mentioning a choice, but clearly providing one. I think the choice on these three cards should be treated the same way given those wordings, but I'm happy to make exceptions if the intent is otherwise.

The game is full of fringe cases that look similar but behave differently. Obviously I have no insight as to intent, but it seems to me Andrew was answering the choice question in conjunction with the question on how to determine which of the lowest level players would make the choice. Until I hear otherwise, I'm going to play it as if the intent was always for someone else to make the choice. Therefore I will treat it as "lowest level opponent" instead of "lowest level player."
If I make it to Australia before an official ruling is made, we'll roll to see who's interpretation we use if it comes up. (No Loaded Die or Reloaded Die allowed.)
