The trash compactor tells you to discard the item which gives you the best bonus and then to search the discards for a replacement item that you can at the moment legally use if you win the combat or there is no combat.
My friend argued that he could take any one-shot item as a replacement since they are all legal for him to use. From the wording of the card (emphasis on the legal part, implying that it has to be an equipped item) I argued against this. Which of us was correct? |

"Use" does not mean "have." If he could not legally play that card to get its effect at that moment, then he couldn't take it from the discards.

Thanks.
So if he had been a trader, for example, and the pink stamps item was in the discard pile, would he have been able to dig it up and use it immediately? |
