Quick Question about Cards in Hand

Can we keep more than 5 cards in our hand if we receive more--such as through Charity--in between turns? And do we have to discard until there are only 5 cards BEFORE the next combat or can we wait until after combat and take advantage of that Charity?

The only time that Charity is performed is at the end of your own turns. At any other time, you can have as many cards in your hand as you can physically hold.
