Perhaps, but the events that MM was responding to included a monster enhancer, true it didn't have an effect on the final result but it could have.

I guess I read the rulings as all effects persisted, which would make it simpler as people wouldn't be searching through their boxes looking for edge cases. Plus it would allow Sylph Preservation to have a use.

It does still have multiple uses. You can still get the one-shots you play into your own battles back, just wait until you are discarding them. You also get to potentially take your opponents one-shots that they play into your battles as you are the one discarding them (either that, or you get your own cards back as the opponent discards them, once we get a confirmed intention of the card text). Any of your one shots that have immediate effects can also be brought back into your hand and played again via the other play method.

Doing it this way removes bookkeeping, as you don't need to remember which cards have been played and removed from the table to remember to keep applying their effects. Just look at what's on the table to figure out what the current combat strength is. It's not an edge case scenario as it's almost always clear which card effects are instantaneous and which are temporary. It also matches the rulings we have regarding Restraining Order and Potion of Apathy for cards returned to their owners.

Edit: Hmm, I think I'll take the you discarding thing to another thread just to avoid confusion.
