I think it goes further than that. It also means no Class/Race abilities have been used, no trades have been performed, charity hasn't been done, and no sales for levels have been made. In essence, it means that no game events have happened since the card was played.

Is this (no card events have happened) the right interpretation?

I think it's: play one-shot in combat>play Sylph Preservation>take one-shot back in hand as cards from combat are being discarded. Sometimes you just have to play things in a way that makes sense (and is fair) rather than try to interpret every single word.

No, the +X to either side cards, monster enhancers and so on don't stay in effect while they are not on the table. However, Sylph Preservation can be used at two different times, either after you play or after you discard a card. For those one-shots that apply a bonus until they are discarded, choose to use Sylph Preservation when you discard them. For those that apply an immediate effect, like Pollymorph Potion, use the immediate effect after playing the card of Sylph Preservation.
The only problem here is that it says you must discard the cards, so I guess you can only get cards back if it's your combat, as the combat owner discards all the cards. It does allow you to actually get some neat cards from other players, though. Perhaps this is incorrect intent due to the use of "back into your hand", though. It's actually consistent. The way I read that thread is that the effects of Restraining Order do not undo instant effects that are already complete, such as Pollymorph Potion. It would stop the effects that last until the end of battle such as Pretty Balloons and monster enhancers, though.

Perhaps, but the events that MM was responding to included a monster enhancer, true it didn't have an effect on the final result but it could have.
I guess I read the rulings as all effects persisted, which would make it simpler as people wouldn't be searching through their boxes looking for edge cases. Plus it would allow Sylph Preservation to have a use. |
