Hi Guys,
Anyone know how long it takes a trained gunsmith to modify a standard 12 guage shotgun into a sawed off shotgun or even a whippet configuration shotgun? I've a player who is asking. I figure if I can get a handle on how long it takes to do the conversion, I can give a ball park estimate on how much the gunsmith might charge for the service. Thanks, Hal |

Don't for get to file the insides of the barrel as well to clear any obstructions left over from the hacksaw.

To keep with the flavor of the setting it probably wouldn't even require a trained gunsmith just a hacksaw and you might be able to borrow one for free.

If you let the blacksmith stay with the metal from the sawn off part, he will probably do it for free.

So, at a rough guess, sawing off the barrels won't take much time, cutting the stock down to size so that it is more of a whippet style shotgun wouldn't take an awful long time either - call it a half a day maybe?

It won't take a gunsmith that long, but he may well charge as if it did. There are rules on the effects (but not the prices) of this in Tactical Shooting. Anybody with a couple of points in an applicable Armoury speciality can do it themselves with no real problems.

half hour tops. A whippet shotgun would take at most 1h.

Yep, this. This one of the simplest of all gun modification and little or no skill required. There isn't really anything that can go wrong on a crit fail if you unloaded the gun first..
A person doing an neat job will file around te cut on the barrel to smooth that and sandpaper the cut stock to get a smooth grip but a slob can probably get away without any of this. You don't need a trained Blacksmith to do any of this but you might need his tools.

If a player wanted to do that, without armory, i would let it with a guns+4 based on IQ. Or armory +8 if he have it and really wants to roll
