By the optional rules of martial arts, you can only dodge a firearm shot by someone you are directly seeing(like someone you aimed or attacked last turn).
If you can't see the shooter, you can still defend, imagine that a soldier is on guard, a sniper shoot him, but misses, the soldier couldn't dodge if it was a hit because he doesn't know of the attack, but after he is shoot, he starts running, searching for the sniper, trying to remain behind cover, and then, he has a dodge choice, even without seeing or hearing the sniper.
