Default [DF] GURPS DF Undead

I have GURPS Undead 3rd edition and also GURPS Bloodtypes and I enjoy both of those books. I am now thinking that GURPS DF Undead would be a perfect book for the DF series. I think it should follow the Van Ricten's Guide series from AD&D Ravenloft where there are increasingly powerful undead as they age. For instance new vampires were pretty tough but older ones had many new powers and ancient ones had awesome power. I also think that some different types or variations on the undead would be useful as in GURPS Bloodtypes where the book included vampires from different myths and legends around the world.

Ghosts are one type of undead that most books just assume they are too individual to put any set order down. But for me, it would be very useful to have many different types of ghosts written out with lots of interesting powers to use. Also for ghosts there needs to be some discussion on their foci and how it could be used in DF. And finally why the ghost is staying in the mortal world and if there are any ways to use that to break what binds the ghost to the mortal world. Therse are just some thoughts...

This is another great example of a book that totally doesn't need to happen. Sure, a few people would buy it, and each and every one of them will be around shortly to say so, but it's a total non-starter as far as actually making money goes, because of the cultural differences between D&D and GURPS that we've discussed many, many times (ie: D&Ders want everything handed to them and will use everything they are handed; GURPSers want to DIY).

PS - Wrong forum.

Well, I could imagine DF: Undead, which is 50% monster book, 20% new player races, 20% equipment for undead hunters, 10% GM advice (useful stuff for tombs etc). Well, it wouldn't fit exactly into the series, but one could split it up into the player/GM part and the monster part, I suppose.

To broaden the topic, one could make DF Monster 2: Animations, and just lump Golems, Vampires, Skeletons, and their creators (if any) all into the same book.

Not sure if that's what b-dog had in mind, but it could be interesting for graveyard robbers. On the other hand, DF:Monsters 1 already has an Undead template or some such judging from the table of contents in the preview.

Not a big afficianado of DF, but I can see the big problem with this being the "Universal" bit of GURPS - you could spend half the book just on various cultures ideas of vampires. Hell, you could probably fill a good chunk of it with modern western vampires.

Too much variation to my way of thinking - and doesn't GURPS normally work by taking a few baselines and then messing them about with lenses? Why bother with endless D&D style statblocks when you've got that as an alternative?

"Could"? There already is Gurps Undead (3e), Gurps Blood types (3e) and Gurps Horror (4e) ...

I think a case a little overstated.

Disclaimer:I have no connection to SJ Games etc

Here is a potential outline:

Title: DF X UNDEAD

Undead Races for PCs

- Sub Headings on a couple of interesting undead races that PCs can play

Classes:

A Class (or 2) built around undead as a concept... (already have necromancer and tomb raider is pretty close to thief, but I am not writing the book. Lenses etc

Monsters:

5 -10 pages of Lots of undead monsters

Powers:

Some undead specific DF powers.... IDK if 'level drain' has been covered yet in DF, but maybe it could be.

20 Page PDF. $7.99

How on earth would that not be (in principle) popular enough to sell or consider producing? Obviously it will depend on a number of factors, (SJ Games might already have DF Monsters 2 UNDEAD ATTACK, there might not be a good class or DF may already have too many books) but it is no more a book that no one would buy than DF Taverns or DF Psi are.

I can't see this being a great idea. I can see, and would advocate, more monster books, which would have undead in them, but given Summoners and Magic already, I can't see there being a need for an undead-dedicated book.

I agree, but I think an Undead themed Pyramid issue (that included articles for DF, Monster Hunters, and more generic Horror games) would make it into my shopping cart.

How about an undead themed adventure instead? Mirror of The Fire Demon included creature stat blocks for things relevant to the adventure, so I could see an adventure being a good way to introduce more undead. I feel that stat blocks for basic skeletons, zombies, and various other things would be great.

Personally, I actually feel that a monster book of undead would do well. However, if the consensus is there would not be enough material to fill an entire monster book, I feel an adventure would be the way to go.

I just think that undead are interesting enough to have their own book. There could be info on designing their lairs, crypts and so forth. And also this being DF they could be boosted up with interesting powers and abilities to challenge the PCs.
