Default Lv vs Combat Bonus - Axe Cop Card Clarification

Hello All,

I was playing Munchkin Axe Cop with a group of people when we ran into a bit of trouble.

Someone went "looking for trouble" and threw out a Lv 8 monster. This person was at Lv 9 and this battle was for the win. Another player then threw out two "+10" enhancers followed by a new Axe Cop card that stated "double the Level of the monster".

This is where the disagreement started.

The munchkin fighting the monster said the Level refers to what is printed on the card and the other cards just increase its combat bouns, therefore, (8*2)+10+10= 36

The other person said that the "+10"s added to the level, therefore, (8+10+10)*2 = 56

In the end the owner of the game had to make a ruling to continue the game.

I think both sides have merit and I don't want to teach people incorrectly so, Do "+5" and "+10" monster enhancers add to the Level of a monster or do they only modify the combat bonus?

Enhancers only add to the combat strength, not the level. There are currently very few things that actually change a Monster's level, and they are very explicit about it.

As to this particular situation, I don't have the card in question in front of me, so I can't say for sure, but if the text was clear about doubling the LEVEL, then that is all that is doubled.

Unless they state otherwise (as the Axe Cop card does), Monster Enhancers affect the Combat Strength of the monster, not it's Level.

The Axe Cop card is special, though, and actually doubles the Level of the monster, making a L9 monster a L18 monster. You would then add the Monster Enhancers to that L18 to determine the monster's Combat Strength.

Thank you. I agree.

The new version rules made a point to differentiate between Level and combat strengh so I agreed that it was Level x 2 + modifiers, but I second guessed myself when I remembered that the old version of the "+10" cards said "to level" on the cards.

I'm glad that my intuition was right.
