A little help please.

Hi... kind of a stupid question but, my main group of friends predominately plays MTG (Magic The Gathering) and thus they treat Munchkins with the same mind set as mtg. Every one treats the one-shot cards like instants and counters and I'm not sure we're using them correctly.

So my question is: If I've already defeated a monster (whether from the combination of bonuses and level or via potions and outside cards) is it possible for another player to remove the monster (with use of say... a friendship potion card), or to redirect the monster with use of a Transferral Potion card?

Or does the combat phase count as resolved at the moment of defeat?
