Re: Armor enchantment: tracking damage for weapons or shields?
It's usually a small detail, so the difference between tracking it and not tracking it is usually just a matter of feel. While I normally go for tracking the damage (Particularly when dealing with shields!), I don't think it'd be enough of a change to need an increase in magic cost if the enchantment can't be broken by incidental wear-and-tear. Considering how rare it is even in my games (As in, I can't think of a time it's happened, other than someone very powerful wrecking not just the item but everything in its general vicinity), I don't think there would be any balance issues.
Certainly, if I were running a lighter-rules combat game, I wouldn't be concerned with it. If you're not even doing hit-locations, it seems like the kind of detail that would be quite unnecessary. So you should be good :>
