Mail was fairly common pretty much everywhere in Asia except for China (they used it but it wasn't common).
I've recently seen a Japanese kabuto where the bowl was segmented. It was designed to be collapsed flat so it could easily be stored and transported. It looked fairly flimsy though. I suppose it could be classed as a cheap segmented helmet. This is the only example of a segmented helmet that I can think of.
