Default Android Level Counter App, and the Kindle Fire

I just got a Kindle Fire, which is an Android tablet device. I'm trying to purchase the Munchkin Level Counter app, but am unable to do so. The problem is that the Kindle will only purchase apps from the Amazon app store. (Recall that the Munchkin Level Counter app is sold from the Android app store at market.android.com, and is not available in the Amazon app store.) Amazon doesn't want Kindle users purchasing from the Android app store, and if I browse to the Android app store, the Kindle redirects me to the Amazon app store.

This brings up two questions: first, does anyone know of a way to work around this?

Second, for Andrew, are there any plans to make the Munchkin Level Counter available via the Amazon app store?

I found an article claiming that you could sideload apps, with instructions.

Don't know if that helps.

Thanks. I did some research on sideloading, and it appears that this method won't work for paid apps because they won’t authorize properly. The process also requires a second Android device, which I don't have.

Sorry it wasn't more helpful. Seems like there SHOULD be a way, but web-searching for answers is as high as my skill level goes in this regard.

I'd look for instructions on how to side-load the Android App Market, then purchase/download the level counter from there.

I've heard that sideloading is easier on the Nook Tablet, but I've no actual experience on that, yet. I'll tell you when I've bought the superior e-reader on the market for what will be the second time (my wife loves it when I upgrade).

That's your problem right there.

The Kindle Fire, while using some Android guts, is NOT an Android Device.
Much the same way a Mac is not a Linux device (OSX is based on Linux, but it is very much NOT linux).

It's missing a number of fundamental things that Android devices need, like dedicated Home and Back buttons.
Not having those buttons actually breaks a surprising number of android apps, because the Android system spec requires those buttons and apps are coded to expect them.

This is (one reason) why they lock you into their store... everything there is tested and compatible.

To get the Level Counter on the Fire without any shenanigans, you'll need to wait for SJG to submit it to the Amazon App Store and have it accepted.

Otherwise, you're waiting for some hack to get the Market app on there... or waiting for a full fledged Jailbreak.

@MunchkinMan: Sideloading on a Nook is easier because they have SD slots. The Kindle Fire does not

Yup. Have two already, upgrading mine shortly. My wife gets the Color, and the classic Nook gets "retired." I figured the external memory is what would help with the sideloading.

MM, let me ask you something since we're on the topic, I read A LOT, is the nook worth it? Do you get eye fatigue from staring at the screen? I'd like to buy a portable reader, would save me a ton on paper books, and I value your opinion.

I know this is unrelated to munchkin at all, so if you can't answer I understand, no disrespect meant.
