I've worked with Spaceships, but never used the combat rules. I understand from discussions rules that RAW space fighters are mostly useless. Since Spaceships emphasizes reality, that's not surprising.

How about Spaceships 9: Space Opera? It would have switches and knobs for tuning the combat system. Fighters and battleships, like Battlestar Galactica? Do a, b, and c. Fighters, frigates and cruisers, like Babylon 5? Do d, e, f.

Well, first of all it depends on what you mean by space fighters.

SM +5 or +4 missile carriers and maybe PD boats are quite possibly the only viable warships. Dogfighters, of course, are less likely.

SS4 is already full of rules intended to support more cinematic space fighters. I don't know how well they work.
