Well, it might be easier to explain with an example.
Dinosaur (SM+3) vs snake alien (SM-4), Kick to torso By RAW: The attack is at -4 for their SM By optional rules in FAQ: The attack is at -7 for relative SM Using max [relative SM] or [relative weapon SM]: The attack is at -3 for relative size (foot being -4 from body, IIRC) Using max [relative SM] or [absolute weapon SM]: The attack would be at -1. My point above was that for the third case, the weapon is practically always smaller than the body of the wielder, so max [relative SM] and [relative weapon SM] would always be [relative weapon SM] (these being penalties, so smaller absolute values are larger numbers). |
