Default Dungeon Fantasy - Order to add Templates?

Hi guys

This is a stupid question, sorry... but I can't seem to think straight and need your help.

I want to make a character who is half-ogre knight.

In what order do I add the templates to my character in GCA?

I get very different result - just from adding the templates - when I add Knight first or when I add Half-Ogre first.

Thanks

Onkl

Yes, you do, and that all depends on which template's attribute requirements you wish to stick to more. Whichever one you add last tends to take more precedence.

If you add the Racial Template first then the attributes will be set exactly per the Character Template when it's added afterwords. This means that final character point cost probably won't be equal to the Racial Template Cost + Character Template Cost, as some combinations have synergies which save points and others have incompatibilities which end up costing more points to remedy.

If you add the Character Template first the attributes will be set as per the Character Template, then modified up or down by the bonuses/penalties of the Racial Template. In this case final cost should be equal to Character Template Cost + Racial Template Cost, however because the Racial Template can add penalties to attributes you may wind up with a Knight who isn't very strong or a Wizard who isn't very bright.

In the end it doesn't matter a whole lot which you take first, as you need to points-balance the character to the campaign point level anyway, so you'll probably have to monkey around with attribute levels to do that. I usually add the Racial Template first, then the Character Template, as this ensures that the character has the necessary attribute requirements for their profession. If I have points leftover I may raise an attribute to be in-line with the Races' bonuses. However, this doesn't always work out - i.e. an Ogre Barbarian should have the massive ST bonuses of both templates, not "merely" be as strong as a Human Barbarian - the Ogre is receiving the SM increase of both templates so should be spectacularly huge.
