I found that answered the questions I had regarding Big, Complex, Class/Race only Items carried by Hirelings

This thread isn't about Hirelings that were introduced in Munchkins 4 and 5, it's about the OLD Hireling treasure card that was in Munchkin 1 and 3(?). Because of the new Hireling-type cards, they changed the old treasure card Hireling to have different rules.

If you are swapping one big item out for the other you were carrying, I can't see why you couldn't do that.

If you are swapping one big item out for a small item, yet already have a big item in play, I don't think that is a legal move and thus cannot make that kind of move unless you can find a way to give away or discard one of the big items first. I don't think you can voluntarily force a low level player to take one of them like you would when you lose the Dwarf race and must give one to the lowest level player that can legally use it(discard if none can use it).

Yes. That is what I meant, that you should not be able to swap out a big item from the Hireling when you are already carrying one. That would allow you to arbitrarily discard (or give away) a big item at any time, the same as losing a Dwarf race. That might be very Munchkinly, but probably not intended within the rules.

You could arbitrarily give away the Item in the first place. That's trading: You can trade with another player for nothing in return. However, no, you can't try to swap out one Big Item for a Small Item if you already have another Big Item you were also carrying. You can, of course, sell (on your turn) or trade the Item, destroy it with a Curse.
