I'm wondering if there is any important reason to prefer the stats generated from GURPS Spaceships over given stats when converting spaceships from the basic vehicle rules.
Specifically, I've converted spaceships from GURPS Tales of the Solar Patrol to GURPS Spaceships stats, and they don't match up. For instance, a Patrol Ship is given these (selected) stats in Tales of the Solar Patrol: ST/HP 250; Hnd/SR +4/3; HT 13; LWt. 10,000; Load 200; Occ 10+2ASV; DR 100; Cost $90M. But my conversion ends up with the following stats, which cannot really be made any closer to the original: dST/HP 70; Hnd/SR -1/5; HT 13; LWt. 1,000; Load 31.2; Occ 12ASV; dDr 20; Cost $152.5M Now, the Spaceships rules generate a relatively realistic set of stats, and frankly, I'm not interested in realism in Tales of the Solar Patrol. But my question is whether there is any other important reason to prefer the Spaceships stats over the original stats. That is, use the Spaceships rules for playing, but use decade-scale versions of the original stats. (Weapon stats would also have to be converted.) dST/HP 25; Hnd/SR +4/3; HT 13; LWt. 10,000; Load 200; Occ 10+2ASV; DR d10; Cost $90M. What problems, if any, might I run into? |
