So, Illusion (or Polly morph) does not affect the mate. It remains the original.

If you want to use Pollymorph Potion and you are facing a Monster and its Mate, the easy thing to do is discard the Mate.

The FAQ is making the point that the Mate is a Monster in its own right and it is not considered a Monster Enhancer that gets swept away.
