[Spaceships] Cannon Fodder
I'm using the Cannon Fodder rule from page B417. A situation came up during a space combat last night. An enemy ship was about to make a Dodge roll, but the players pointed out that the enemy ships should count as cannon fodder too. I agreed and ruled that their Dodges always fail.
This seems to fit the genre (Tales of the Solar Patrol). I was wondering if anyone had given any thought to the effects on space combat. Obviously, the NPC Crew Actions rule from Spaceships p. 54 should be used. The Dedicated Close option should probably be disallowed. I was wondering if performing Evasive Action should allow a possibly successful Dodge, or if Evasive Action should only help avoid Closing ships and set up Retreats.
I was also wondering how damage should be handled, whether there should be an equivalent of Cannon Fodder's rule about penetrating damage downing the mook. Maybe penetrating damage automatically destroys hit systems (no disabling) unless the PCs' ship was specifically shooting to disable? How fragile should cannon fodder ships be?
