Steal a Hireling

From Munchkin 4 and 5 rules:

• If your Hireling is killed, you loot the body yourself and keep
the items.

Is this rule wrong too, or in this specific case you CAN keep the items? What would kill a Hireling besides the Kill a Hireling GUAL card?
