Default GURPS 3e Size to 4e?

I'm converting some monsters from GURPS Deadlands and GURPS Deadlands: Varmints. The stat block has a Size statistic. Does anyone know the conversion between Size and SM? Because the numbers seem a little large for it to be 1:1. A 10' tall demon is Size 1, same as most normal humans, and a 12' tall archdemon that is "almost 6 feet across" is size 2.

Help?

As far as I can tell, 3e used the same Size scale as 4e. So the 10' demon is approximately 3 yards tall, for Size 1 (ie, SM +1), the 12' tall demon is 4 yards tall, or Size 2 (SM +2). A normal human is Size 0 (SM +0), not Size 1.

Nope. Every normal human sized critter is size 1. Some of the smaller ones (dog sized, frex) have a <1 notation, but generally not how much less than 1.

I'm pretty sure that in creature statblocks "Size" meant size in hexes of a miniature's base.

Ah, that makes sense. In that case, just use the listed dimensions to determine the 4e SM.

ISTR that as well, and it also makes sense, so I think you're solved the OP's problem.

Importantly, it's not "radius" or "diameter" but "area in hexes".

So a horse is "3" because it's three hexes long, one hex wide, total of 3 hexes.

The area in hexes (and their disposition) is something I would like to see returning. For example, how many hexes is an SM+5 dragon?

That would be really useful, especially if we ever get a bestiary. I think a couple of more examples for multi-hex creatures would also be nice.

Examples would be very helpful. Sadly though, it's hardly "Generic". I think the closest we could do is assign a range of hex sizes for each SM, and a suggested layout based on various body plans (upright, horizontal, gelatinous cube etc).
