Ghost Writer

I don't have the Ghost Writer card in front of me, but its Bad Stuff is something like, "Discard your Hireling, if you have more than one, you choose which Hireling to discard."

It is my understanding that you can only have one Hireling in play at a time. Is this incorrect? Under what circumstance might a person have more than one Hireling? Thanks.

There are actually a fair number of ways. Aside from certain cards which specifically state that you could have an extra Hireling or more (e.g., Chinese Loyalty in Munchkin Impossible), there's also this:

Bear in mind, a Hireling = a Sidekick = a Minion = a Mook, so any card that refers to one of those, essentially refers to Hirelings as well.
